“The earth has music for those who listen.” – William Shakespeare
For those that don’t know me, I’m a proud tree hugger. I have absolutely no shame in admitting it. Whether I’m happy or sad, I hug trees and… I talk to them. And they hug back. They are the most comforting living thing – I mean, they don’t replace human touch, but they are pretty up there as far as great listeners.
When you feel down or need to recharge, spending time in nature is proven to have a positive impact on both physical and mental health. I’ll spare you the details but the science is clear: being in nature reduces inflammation, boosts our immune system, and even improves our mood. It has a profound impact on our well-being.
So, here’s what I want you to do: Next time you feel anxious or stressed…or maybe you just feel like it, take a walk in the forest. Leave everything home and stay in the present moment. Be aware of your surroundings. Listen to the wind. Feel and smell the air.
When you find a tree that resonates with you (one that attracts you), say hello. I give it a handshake by putting my hands on the trunk. Wrap your arms around it. Embrace it with your whole body and your face. Allow yourself to release your worries and concerns, letting the tree’s energy absorb and transform them up to the universe.
If you can be barefoot, you’ll have the extra benefit of grounding yourself with the tree and feeling the energy of the roots, all interconnected to the fascinating world of the underground network. Take a moment to honour the wisdom of the tree. Breathe. Let go.

Ahhh, just thinking about it makes me feel uplifted.
I encourage you to give it a try and experience the healing power of nature for yourself.
