Sketching practice day 7 and 8

I forgot to post yesterday’s 31 day challenge. So here’s a long one combining yesterday and today’s studio practice .

January 7th: Started with 30 seconds figure sketches. I don’t even know if I want to share those. Can you get worse the more you practice? Lol

There were lots of Ninja’s 🥷 in the references

Then i felt like trying a quick 10 minutes portrait sketch with willow charcoal. I haven’t sketched a portrait in about probably 30 years? And never with charcoal. My magic is with paint- and skipping sketching! Ha.

So this is a first. I probably should’ve tried the different sizes to make it easier on myself.

Room for improvement, that’s for sure but for a first try, i’m ok with it!

It’s Christmas again! I bought meself some goodies! But after today’s portrait, I realized I might need better supplies for drawing- like a proper eraser.

January 8th: Started this morning with 5 minutes sketches. In the reference video for the dancers, the artist suggested to draw whatever inspires you- and while I love the movement of dancers, I thought ok, I’ll try poses that’s been a big part of my life:sports!

But then it took me longer to find those references than sketching lol So I ran out of time to create more.

Finished with a quick portrait- in willow chalk. Already way better than yesterday’s. I always enjoy beard portraits.
