Supply teaching

Thought I would check-in and post an update on my 31 day challenge. I have been practicing quick gestural drawings every day but day 15th and today.

Today I worked on a dog commission.

Can’t reveal it yet!

But here’s my diary from day 15:

Today’s art practice didn’t happen.

Instead, my adventures, if you want to call it that, involved a helluva sub-teaching day with fourth graders, a bunch of hyper defying little monsters. And lucky me, THE largest class in school. “They are really great kids” the school Director said. “Don’t stress, i promise it’s a great class”, she had reassured me.

Of course, the kids will always be sweet angels for the Director. Put a substitute teacher infront of the class though, the little devils come out. Suddenly the rules don’t apply anymore.

If that wasn‘t challenging enough, the power went out. Oh yes, now they are panicking little monsters on crack. Which amplified after the power came back on and set the alarm off. Now we’re outside, with indoor shoes and t-shirts, in wet snow.

Fast forward to 4 pm…. this drained, now raspy voiced, tired human being, took a wonderful hour nap on the couch. Got up to go play my weekly curling game, which I desperately needed.

So the art pens and crayons laid still in darkness, until the next day.
